ANALYSIS

Hi again! I am here the for the last time to write my last entry about the book "Holes".To be honest i liked writing blog.I didn't expect it but it's true.Anyway let's start with the analysis.

First of all i must say i liked the book so much.Because the plot is interesting and the book fluent and well-structured.Three another story which happened in different times were good connected with each other and that made the book more interesting and thrilling.By the way there are many flashbacks in the book.Sometimes the writer ended a chapter and in the next chapter he wrote about a story which happened 100 years ago. That's why the book wasn't boring.

I liked the ending of the book, because i like happy ends.I think especially Zero deserved happiness. Nevertheless i can't decide which one is my favourite character.Stanley or Zero? I don't know.

The themes that the writer wrote about are destiny, luck, friendship, love, racism, hope and poverty. Besides i like the writing style of the writer.Otherwise the book can't be fluent. At the end of the book Louis Sachar didn't go through all the details of all the changes in the characters' lives not to be boring. He wanted us to"fill in the holes" ourselves.I liked that part.He also used sometimes repetition in the book. For example the song ,which Elya Yelnats had to sing to a pig and the word"dirty-rotten-pig-stealing-great-grandfather" was repeated too.

"If only,if only"the woodpecker sighs,
"The bark on the tree was just a little bit softer."
While the wolf waits below, hungry and lonely.
He cries to the moo-oo-oon,
"ı"f only,if only."

"Behind them the sky had turned dark, and for the first time in over a hundred years,a drop of rain fell into the empty lake."(p176)

JUST BEFORE THE LAST HOLE-Prediction

Today the first part of the book was finished and i want to share my predictions about the next part of the book.By the way i must say that the most impressive thing in this part was the Kate Barlow and Sam 's love story. It was a deplorable story and i must confess i can develop emphaty with Kate Barlow who went crazy and became outlaw after her love's death.Sure i couldn't kill plenty of people:D

"No water leaked into the classroom, except for the few drops that came from her eyes."(p 91)

"Sam was shot and killed in the water.Katherine Barlow was rescued against her wishes...That all happened one hundred and ten years ago.Since then, not one drop of rain has fallen on Green Lake."(p 94)

what a sad love story
And here are my predictions about the next part of the book:
  • I think Warden is looking for Kate Barlow's loot and there is a relation between Warden and Trout-Linda Walker.Maybe she's their granddaughter. "Cause you're going to be digging for a long time. It'a big vast wasteland out there. You,your children ,and their children, can dig for the next hundred years and you'll never find it"(p 99) I suppose that's why she made the boys digging holes.
  • Zero (Hector Zeroni) can be Madama Zeroni's grandson.I think Stanley needs him (Madame Zeroni's grandson) to get rid of the curse.Maybe he should sing the song to him.
  • I'm also wondering about the story of Barf Bag but i think he was in hospital because he was biten by a rattlesnake and it's important because there is vacancy when the Barf Bag want to hospital that's why Stanley could come to the Camp Green Lake and meet Zero.
  • Stanley's inventor dad can manage to recycle the sneakers and become rich.
  • Finally i'm sure there is an happy end because Walt Disney's films always have an happy end.I think Stanley and his family will live happy and rich without curse at the ending of the book.
See you soon:D                                                                                                 (285 w)

Stanley’s family and the story of curse.

LET'S GO BACK! (Looking Back)

Hello again! I read almost the half of the book.I think it’s time to take a look at back and remember what happened  in these 22 chapters. If you didn’t read  the first 80 pages of the book, watch out:Spoiler is coming:D
Caveman and his friends
Warden
After Stanley comes to the Camp Green Lake, he notices that the camp is not as he expected. On the one hand he tries to adjust the bad conditions of the camp,on the other hand he tries to make friends.Actually he manages it and he gets the nickname “caveman”. At the Camp Green Lake there is only one thing they are supposed to do :Digging holes(to become “a good boy”) and reporting when they find anything interesting. After a while Stanley  also finds an interesting thing (a gold tube with the letters KB on it ,we still don’t know what it exactly is )Since Warden gets very interested in this tube,Stanley figures out that they aren’t digging holes only to be good boys and there can be an another reason.

By the way he gets along with Zero (a boy who doesn’t speak so much but can dig fast and the others says about him “There’s nothing in his head”,p 20) and he begins to teach him reading.

In these 22 chapters we also learned when and how the curse of Stanley’s family began.

PS:Tomorrow i’m going to share a diagram which includes information about Stanley’s family and the story of curse.(But enough for today:D)

FIRST IMPRESSIONS

Hi everybody,
You're just about to read my reading blog about the book "Holes",but first of all i want to ask: Are you sure? Because i have never written a blog (it will be my first trial:D) and i am not sure i'm good at it. Anyway,if you're decisive to read it,here we go.Enjoy it!

When i first saw the cover of the book i couldn't imagine what the book is about.Actually it didn't make me curious and i thought "again a boring book as a homework".But then i understood that i was wrong.I only read the first 40 pages of the book but i can say this is the best book that we have read for a school assignment.A fluent book and an interesting plot. What else does a student expect from a homework book?:D

The book "Holes" which was written by Louis Sachar is about a boy Stanley Yelnats who was arrested for stealing sneakers (Actually he didn't commit that crime) and sent to Camp Green Lake instead of going to jail. It isn't a normal camp and the campers are supposed to dig holes, because some people think "To take a bad boy and make him digging a hole everyday in the hot sun ,it will return him into a good boy"(p 9).I am not sure if it's a good way.

And i have many questions which are waiting for their answers.

"There's really only one rule at Camp Green Lake:Don't upset the Warden."(p 18) Who's that Warden and why shouldn't Stanley upset him or her?
Why doesn't Zero speak? (I think he has an interesting story but we don't know anything about him)
Can Stanley's family get rid of their curse?
What will Stanley do at Camp Green Lake? Will he try to escape?
Enough for today.See you later:D                                                                (W 285)

"If only,if only,"the woodpeckers sighs,
"The bark on the tree was just a little bit softer."
While the wolf waits below, hungry and lonely.
He cries to the moo-oo-oon,
"If only,if only"
(p12)
